5 Things Brides Forget

5 Things Brides Forget

With all the planning you’re doing right now, it’s hard to imagine there’s any detail you haven’t thought of, but trust us, there are certain to-dos that somehow never make it to the list. Here are the top ones we hear about all the time.

Post-Wedding Transport for Guests

While we understand that it’s up to guests to ensure that they get home safely, you don’t want a tragic end to your special day! South Africa has non-existent public transport, so help your guests out by informing them of transport options in the area. You can either print a few cards with cab numbers and place them at entrances and exits or on guest tables, or you can add an info card to your Welcome Baskets. Call local cab companies and inform them of your event, and ask that a few taxis are available outside your venue at a specific time.

Assigning Someone To Take Things Home

There will undoubtedly be things left at the venue that you will want to keep. From your champagne flutes, to any mementos given to you by guests on the night, it’s important to assign someone to do a last check of the venue after all the guests have left. If you have an on-site co-ordinater, ask that they keep any lost property and find out when guests can collect any left behind belongings.

Your centerpieces are an expensive part of your wedding day. Don’t let your beautiful flowers go to waste! Contact a local hospital, charity or old age home and offer to donate them after the wedding. Assign a family member to collect them the day after, and to drop them off at your chosen location.

If you have done a fair amount of DIY, you may want to ask a family member to bring flat boxes and packing tape to transport bigger breakable items after the ceremony.

Decorating Other Areas

Of course, no guest will walk out of your wedding if the bathrooms and cocktail bar are left bare. But with all the energy that’s put into dressing up the reception and ceremony spaces, you might want to put in the small extra effort to give these spots the décor they deserve.

In the bathrooms, add a comfort basket with a few necessities and get one or two small arrangements for bathrooms, bars and any other areas your guests will be using.

Give your Photographer a Shot List

While there will always be the obvious shots you want after your before and during your ceremony, and with your Bridal Party, don’t forget to let your photographer know which guests you would like photo’s with at the reception!

Guests who have travelled from far will be disappointed to be left out of the photographs, so make sure you give your photographer a comprehensive list of important guests, and the shots you want!

Your Thank You’s

Don’t forget to thank all of your guests after your wedding day! You may also want to send something small to your organiser, caterer or officiant. Make a list of important people before the day and arrange gifts in advance to prevent lots of stressful and rushed thank you’s when you get back from your honeymoon!
