5 Wedding Rules you can Break

Five Wedding Rules you can Break!

1. You don’t have to wear a white wedding dress!

Vera Wang broke the mould with her Spring 2013 Collection using amazing red hues and dark burgundy. If you’re looking for something completely different, but still want the traditional white frock, why not incorporate coloured skirt underneath your dress?

This season global bridal designers showed scene-stealing creations in blush, pale blue, and yes, even that rich red.

2. You can ask anyone to be part of your Bridal party

Your mom may have had to line up friends to pair off with your dad’s groomsmen, but you two needn’t be so matchy-matchy. Have anyone you want stand up with you at the aisle - a man of honor, groomsmaids—and don’t worry about having an equal number of hims and hers. They can walk up the aisle solo or in groups of three. They don’t have to wear the same thing either.

You can devise a palette of up to three hues, hand your bridesmaids (or groomsmaids) swatches or paint chips, and let them choose their own outfits. If they stick to the colors, even prints are fair game. It gives them the opportunity to get more involved in the planning of your big day, and helps prevent the nightmare of a bridal outfit you’ll never wear again!

3. You can have your ring in any setting, with your favourite stone

Diamonds may be some girls’ best friends, but other brides prefer rubies, pearls, or sapphires. As long as it came with a proposal, any stone can function as an engagement ring (ditto for the setting). You don’t need to limit yourself to just one ring (hooray!) many brides choose stacked bands, which could act as engagement or wedding rings or both. Your ring should represent your style and since you’ll be wearing it forever, it’s completely acceptable to go for something you really love. It doesn’t have to be traditional.

Remember, any ring, given and worn with love, is a fitting symbol of “something with no beginning or end.”

4. You can go wild with your theme, colours and favours!

While the elegant white wedding hasn’t necessarily taken a backseat, we’re seeing couples get creative with their theme, colours, centerpieces and favours! Use the small touches to incorporate your personality into your big event! We love the idea of customised Rubik’s Cube favours, invitations or thank you gifts for a trendy couple tying the knot.

5. You can serve whatever you want as dessert!

If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth - offer something savory, like cheese and delicious artisan breads and crackers, after dinner. You can also introduce an element that will surprise everyone, such as a honeycomb.

Other fun ideas are to have a candy table! That way everyone helps themselves to dessert, and it’s there for a midnight snack.
