Planning a Bachelorette Party

How to Plan an Awesome Bachelorette Party in Gauteng

From tips on planning a lovely event for the bride to be, to Bachelorette and Bridal Shower Venues in Johannesburg and Pretoria fun theme ideas and activities for bridal showers & bachelorettes, we’ve got the ultimate guide to Planning an awesome Bachelorette Party or Bridal Shower!

Planning a Bachelorette Party: First things First

So you’ve been chosen as to be a Bridesmaid! And you and the girls need to plan an amazing bachelorette or kitchen tea for the Bride to Be. Where do you start?

Begin with your friend in mind. Start by finding out what she wants. Have a girls lunch or dinner and ask the Bride what would be the perfect Bachelorette Party. She doesn’t have to give you specifics, but it helps to have her guidance on whether she’d like something traditional, maybe a weekend away - or just a small group of close friends for a sleepover. Don’t be shy to ask.

You’ll need to pick a date well in advance, and this is something you’ll definitely want to discuss with the Bride. Don’t schedule the party too far in front of the big day, but don’t wait until the last minute, either. The Bride may want to have it on the same day as the Bachelors, so chat to her about when would be the best time to throw the Bachelorette or Kitchen Tea.

It’s important to start narrowing down a date so you have an idea of what the weather will be like, and so that you can begin looking for venues and activities. Bachelorettes require a fair bit of planning so that you can let all the invited parties know, and send out an invitation.

For your invitations, we suggest emailing an invite to all the girls. You can browse our email Bachelorette Party Invitations in our store!

On any given evening there are various forms of entertainment, ranging from drag shows to Bitchy Bingo. I went on bingo night. A drag queen with razor sharp wit and her topless male assistant hosted the evening’s festivities.” - from the Times Live Review

Planning a Bachelorette Party: Picking a Theme

Once you’ve got an idea of the date, you can start looking at options for the general ‘theme’ of the day. If your friend is crazy about something specific (other than her fiance of course) like a movie, or a hobby - or even a colour then this will be a lot easier.

You could also be up front and ask her for ideas and pictures around things she’d like. If she’s a tomboy she may want an adventure-packed weekend, if she’s more laid back and traditional you might want to avoid penis-straws and bare-bummed waiters. Asking for her input can help you create the perfect last fling before the ring!

No matter what the theme, there are lovely paper decor items you can use to add colour to your bachelorette party! We’ve featured some of our favourites below!

Fun Bachelorette Theme Ideas

To help give your creativity a boost we’ve put together a few fun bachelorette themes. Themed parties help you tie the decor together, even if you simply pick a colour palette as your theme, it’s always better to have an idea of the direction you’re going in so that everyone can start brainstorming ideas and sourcing decor and catering to suit the bachelorette theme.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s Bachelorette:We have Audrey Hepburn to thank for the obsession with the Little Black Dress. And if you’re hosting a bachelorette for a friend who’s elegant and timeless, then this could be the perfect theme for her bachelorette! Think pretty blue invitations, pearls, black sunglasses and beautiful cafe-style bites!

Parisian Bachelorette: Is your friend a hopeless romantic? Does she love the allure of everything Parisian? Give her a day of Parisian glamour, from Eiffel Tower backdrops to pastel macaroons and delicious baguettes. You can play beautiful French music and add lovely touches that will remind her of the City of Love!

A High Tea: Tea parties have become a massive favourite for bachelorette parties. Not only do they give you so many options for delicate decor and lovely vintage touches, but they’re a feminine and elegant alternative to a crazy night out for more conservative Brides. We love the idea of using teapots as vases, creating interesting chandeliers with tea cups and serving yummy high tea cupcakes!

Contemporary & Colourful Bachelorette: Not all Brides to be want a pastel-coloured, vintage affair. For something different and contemporary why not go for a colourful Bachelorette filled with glitter and feathers? Think brightly coloured cocktails, fun photo props and a colourful dress code!

Bachelorette Party Games & Activities

There are lots of fun ways you can keep the girls entertained at a Bachelorette Party, and if you want to create something really special, it’s important to plan in advance. Below we’ve listed a few of our favourite ideas for games and activities at a Bachelorette to help you plan yours!

Build a Scrapbook or Recipe Book: To give your friend something meaningful at her Bachelorette, ask all the girls to bring either a recipe or photograph on the day. Not only is it a way to keep the girls busy while you wait for the Bride to arrive, but it makes for a beautiful gift that the Bride can keep forever! If you have time (and are crafty) then go all out with a beautiful scrapbook! Create the pages before the day and set up a room with scissors, glue and a few extra scrap-booking touches so that all the guests can help you create a lovely keepsake scrapbook for the Bride.

Play the Question Game: Before the day, think of a list of questions to send to the groom about his Bride. They can range from fun and innocent - such as “what is your favourite holiday memory with *bride*” to a little more risque, like “what is your favourite pair of *Bride’s* underwear”. Remember to keep it PG if Gran’s and other family will be there. On the day ask the Bride the questions so that she can guess his answers. For every one she gets wrong, ask her to have a shot or a sip of her champagne.

Name that Lingerie:Ask guests to bring lingerie as a gift, and have the bride guess who gave her what as she unwraps them.

Scavenger Hunt:For an awesome night out, build a custom “bucket list” or scavenger hunt for the day/night. Have the bride complete each task, and remember to take photos! If you want to get all the girls involved, you can create a list with dares for everyone to complete. The first girl finished wins a prize!

How well do you know your Groom? Another surprisingly difficult and fun bachelorette game is to have the Bride guess which body parts belong to her Groom. You’ll need to email the groom requesting close-up shots of a few of his bits (keep it clean) like his nose, eye, knee, elbow, belly button etc. Then mix them with photo’s of other mens bits and get the Bride to try and guess which ones belong to her Groom and stick them on a pin-up outline of a man. Penalties for each one she gets wrong!

Learn Something New: There are so many fun ways to entertain the girls at a Bachelorette Party. Why not try a yoga class, arrange a cupcake decorating class or even Pole Dancing lessons for the day! Get creative and use the hobbies you know your friend loves for fun entertainment ideas for the Bachelorette Party!
