Wedding Styling 101

Wedding Styling 101

You can tell when a wedding has been perfectly styled. Each detail compliments the others, and everything comes together without being blatantly ‘matchy’. Also called Event Design, Wedding Styling is the art of creating an incredibly well-balanced event - with beautiful, complimentary special touches and effective, creative decor ideas.

Today we wanted to feature a few examples of beautifully styled wedding inspiration boards to introduce our members to the idea of Wedding Styling and Wedding Design. It’s extremely popular in the United States and Europe, and the succesfull event planning companies locally have been styling events for years, but it seems that local Brides are less familiar with the concept.

Who is in charge of my Wedding Styling?

We know we’ve received lots of emails from our members asking who they should go to if they are looking for someone to take their ideas and translate them into amazing decor. Should it be the stationery designer, the wedding planner, the decor hire company?

So we went to the experts and got more insight into the different roles, and who our Brides should be turning to when it comes to a beautifully styled event.

Firstly, your wedding planner is not traditionally a decor stylist. A planner originated as someone who would assist you with finding suppliers, negotiating rates, sourcing hard to find items, booking appointments etc. However this role has evolved and many wedding planners have experience in suggesting and pulling together all the design elements of your big day to create something spectacular. This depends on the Wedding Planning company you choose, so look through their portfolio for more information on how involved they get in styling your big day!

Decor Hire companies are generally going to deliver exactly what you ask for. While there are many companies that assist you in finding the correct items, and some even go as far as to style your event for you - you don’t necessarily want to type “wedding decor hire” into Google if you’re looking for someone to style and plan your wedding decor from start to finish.

Stationery designers can be amazing in this regard, as these creative personalities can often assist you with much more than just your Save the Dates and Invitations. The printed and designed pieces of weddings have really grown in importance, as Brides become more creative with their stationery and want to add really special and unique touches through design.

Everything from Seating Charts and Escort Cards to Menus and Photo Props have become the perfect channel for a couple’s creativity! No longer do you see standard white card place cards and conventional ‘reserved’ signs at a modern wedding. Weddings have become so much more fun, and Brides and Grooms are injecting personality into every detail of their wedding day! So your stationery design has a vital role to play in the styling of your event.

Then obviously you’ve got your dress designers, your florist - even your caterers! Each of these professionals will have an impact on the overall feel of your wedding. So it helps to have someone who can assist you from the very beginning. Who can suggest successful ideas, who can find you the right suppliers within your theme and concept and thread the different elements together with clever details. It really helps to have experienced advice from someone who isn’t emotionally attached to the event and can bring together all of your ideas into a cohesive, well-designed day!

Be inspired for beautifully Styled Weddings

Meet the South African company WHITE - Wedding Styling, Planning & Decor Hire. They put together some exceptional inspiration boards for today’s blog, looking at examples of how you might style your wedding details for two of our chosen example themes. We thought it would be fun for our Brides to get a feel for wedding styling - and to see what the White Weddings Team came up with!

We asked them to inspire us with wedding styling inspiration boards using the following briefs:

Rustic Purple Wedding Styling

The Brief: Give us inspiration for a wedding where the Bride wants a natural and rustic feel. Favourite colour scheme is dark berry, slate and similar purples. The couple love chalkboards and the idea of a cheese-wheel cake. They want darker colours and gold for the reception, but want aspects of clean white for their ceremony.

This is what the White Weddings team came up with! We love it!

Playful Pastel Wedding Styling

The Brief: This is a couple who want an element of something playful & whimsical. The colour palette should be pastels, with a bit of sparkle. The Bride loves pretty wording and heart garlands.

Here is the inspiration board - so lovely!
